Toronto Maple Leafs fall, but Clarington Eagles soar

Clarington Eagles have secured their place in the Schmalz Cup playoffs, even as Toronto’s Maple Leafs are out.

“Toronto couldn’t pull it off, but Clarington did. On behalf of Clarington Council, I would like to congratulate the Clarington Eagles on their remarkable achievement of reaching the Schmalz Cup finals for the third time in three seasons. This is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and talent. They continue to make our community proud,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.

He said many are disappointed by the Toronto Maple Leafs’ early exit from the NHL playoffs, “but we have another reason to celebrate hockey in our municipality—the Eagles soaring! We can come together as a community and cheer the local team on”.

The Eagles will face a tough opponent in the Lakeshore Canadiens, who denied them the Schmalz Cup in 2022.

“The Eagles have shown us that they can overcome any challenge and rise to the occasion, and I have no doubt they will fight for every inch of ice. They have the support of the whole community behind them. Let’s rally behind our hometown team and let them know we are with them all the way,” Mayor Foster said.
