The Municipality of Clarington announced that council has approved asphalt and concrete production facilities at Mosport Main Pit.
MHBC Planning Urban Design & Landscape Architecture had submitted a Clarington Official Plan Amendment and Zoning By-law Amendment on behalf of owner Dufferin Aggregates, a division of CRH Canada Group Inc.
The applications asked for approval to permit an asphalt plant and concrete batching plant at the Mosport Main Pit in Clarke, which is an active mineral aggregate pit operation licenced under the Aggregate Resources Act. The establishment of the proposed facilities would operate for the duration of the aggregate pit licence and be removed as part of the final rehabilitation of the site.
Mosport Main Pit is an active licensed aggregate operation located at 3565 Regional Road 20.
The facilities will support the processing of materials within the existing pit. Technical studies reviewed through the application process concluded that the proposal can proceed while meeting applicable requirements related to traffic, air quality, noise, groundwater and the natural environment, said a municipal statement.
The expanded uses, along with the submitted technical studies, reports, and plans, also require approval from the Ministry of Natural Resources. The review and approval process with the ministry is currently underway.
