Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has announced a visible presence in and around school zones next week as students return to schools.
Saying ‘back-to-school is almost here’, DRPS has launched an awareness campaign entitled ‘Expect to see us in school zones’.
“With most students returning to class next week, school zones will soon be busy with children walking, cycling, and getting on and off school buses. We’re reminding drivers to slow down, stay alert, and watch for young pedestrians in your neighbourhood,” said the police.
It shared Back-to-school safety tips to help everyone get to and from school safely, such as:
- Reduce your speed
- Watch for students crossing
- Eliminate distractions
- Follow all traffic signs and signals
Pickering Road Closure
DRPS yesterday evening announced a road closure in the City of Pickering.
It said Finch Avenue and Whites Road was closed in all directions for a collision investigation.
Thank you for avoiding the area, police said.
