Boater arrested for defying stay-away from under-16 order

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said a man was determined to be breaching court ordered conditions to remain away from any public swimming areas, or areas where persons under the age of 16 years are present.

The male was determined to be travelling back and forth to shore on a small tender, while residing on a boat which was docked off shore near Lakeview Park Beach, in Oshawa.

On Friday July 12 at about 3:45 pm, while conducting proactive patrol, members of the marine unit investigated a boat that was left abandoned and docked on the water.

As he was breaching court ordered conditions, the male was subsequently taken into custody without incident. The 44-year old from Hamilton was charged and held for a bail hearing, police said.
