Body found in Oshawa fire believed to be of murder victim

Durham Police Homicide Unit has now taken over the fire investigation in Oshawa that left one person dead on Monday morning.

The deceased is the fifth victim of homicide in Durham Region in 2023.

On March 6 at about 9:50 am, members of Central East Division responded to an address on Court Street after receiving a call to assist the Oshawa Fire Department.

Oshawa Fire was on scene for a house fire and was able to extinguish the blaze. One person was located in the home deceased. The Ontario Fire Marshal was called in and deemed the fire suspicious in nature, said a police statement.

A post-mortem examination was completed yesterday and determined the victim suffered trauma to the body, which investigators believe is indicative of a homicide. The deceased has not yet been identified.

“We are asking for anyone with information or video footage, including dashcam and home surveillance, to please contact police,” said the statement.
