Bowmanville Park Master Plan for zoo lands launched

The Municipality of Clarington has announced the formal launch of its plan to transform the former Bowmanville Zoo lands into a 13.7-hectare (34-acre) municipal park.

The new park, located in the heart of Clarington, is set to become a tranquil green space that highlights the natural beauty of Soper Creek and its surrounding environment.

The municipality has officially launched Phase 1 of the Bowmanville Park Master Plan, which focuses on assessing the existing bridge. It also includes designing scenic, accessible trails that reflect the community’s vision for the park. These trails will connect visitors to nature and are designed to offer a peaceful experience for people of all ages and abilities—just minutes from downtown Bowmanville, said a statement.

Trail development is expected to begin in fall, with a public opening planned for 2026.

Clarington describes the project as the beginning of a bold vision to create “an imaginative municipal park that honours the legacy of Soper Creek and the former zoo lands.”
