Car thief who rammed cruiser under arrest in hospital

An Oshawa man is facing numerous charges after he stole a vehicle and rammed into a parked police cruiser, police said. 

On Saturday, April 16 at about 5 am, members of Central West Division were involved in a stolen vehicle investigation.

Officers were advised that the suspect vehicle was headed toward the area of Pickering Concession Rd 9 and Sideline Rd 12 in Pickering.  An officer was parked alongside the road when the suspect vehicle headed directly toward him striking him head on. The suspect suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. He currently remains in hospital in stable condition.  The officer also suffered serious injury and has been released from the hospital, said a police statement.

The 27-year old of Oshawa has been charged with: Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Dangerous Operation, Assault with a Weapon and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. He was held for a bail hearing.
