Carjackers pistol-whip Uber driver, flee… but flip car

Durham Police yesterday said two males and a female are in custody after carjacking an Uber driver at gunpoint in Whitby.

On Saturday, June 3 at about 1:50 am, members from Central West Division attended of Thornton Road and Taunton Road in Whitby after a male reported his vehicle was stolen by three unknown persons.

Police responded to the area and located the victim who was pistol whipped and punched repeatedly. The suspects fled the area in the victim’s vehicle, but, however, flipped it a short distance away.  All three fled on foot into a forest area where they were located and arrested without incident.  An airsoft handgun was recovered during the incident, said a police statement.

The victim is currently recovering from physical and emotional injuries, it added.

One male suspect, aged 18 of Oshawa, a  16-year-old female from Scarborough, and a 16-year-old male from Brampton have been charged. All three were held for a bail hearing.
