Crime Prevention Week: Learn to be safe

Durham Police has invited the public to celebrate Crime Prevention Week in Durham Region starting this weekend.

From November 6 – 12, Durham Regional Police will support Ontario’s Crime Prevention Week by spreading tips for keeping yourself and your property safe. This year’s theme is Safer. Stronger. Together.

“We want residents to think about how they can protect themselves, their families, neighbours, and workplaces from crime. Whether crime occurs in the home, on-line, or involves fraud, the theft of a vehicle, physical assaults, or bullying, there is always a victim or group of victims,” said a police statement.

DRPS Community Safety Branch has teamed up with members of Auxiliary Unit and will be focusing on educating residents about preventing vehicle thefts and protecting property. They will have a booth set up at the Pickering Town Centre near the #3 Entrance on the North Side of the mall, directly in front of Children’s Place. DRPS booth will be open from 10 am – 9 pm Monday November 7 – Friday November 11.

For more information regarding the event, please contact Cst. Rice of the Community Safety Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5632.
