Charged, released for assault on woman, impaired boating

Durham Police yesterday said a 29-year-old male has been arrested for assault and impaired operation of a boat after an incident on shore in Port Perry.

On Saturday, September 30 at about 11:40 am, members of North Division responded to an unknown trouble call in the area of Regional Road 21 and Highway 12 in Port Perry.

It was reported that a male was assaulting a female on the side of the roadway. Police located the female and she was treated for minor injuries on scene. The male suspect fled prior to police arrival and was last seen at the Port Perry Marina, said a police statement.

The Durham Regional Police Marine Unit was called in and located the male operating a boat on Lake Scugog. The male was arrested without incident and his boat was towed back to the marina, it added.

Police said a male of Toronto was charged with: Assault, Failure/Refusal to Comply with Breath Demand. He was released on an undertaking.
