Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster has said the nuclear reactors at the Darlington plant are projected to $15.3 billion to Canada’s GDP.
Four small modular reactors (SMRs) are being built at Ontario Power Generation’s Darlington Nuclear Generating Station.
“The potential impact of this project is well illustrated by the Conference Board of Canada’s report, which estimates the SMRs will contribute $15.3 billion to Canada’s GDP, create thousands of local jobs, and generate $4.9 billion in tax revenues for the municipal, provincial, and federal governments over 65 years,” Mayor Foster said.
“The nuclear industry is in the midst of a global renaissance, and the steps we take today will centre Clarington as a global hub for the sector and new nuclear technology. The advances made here will position highly skilled nuclear industry workers from our community to supply products, services, and expertise to a new global SMR market,” he said..
