The Region of Durham yesterday told Durham Post that the cause of Wednesday October 29 web outage was caused by an issue with Microsoft Azure.
Municipalities, the police, hospitals, and Durham Transit, were among the institutions impacted by the outage.
“The temporary outage of the durham.ca website was caused by an issue our internet service provider encountered related to Microsoft Azure. The service disruption was resolved at 8:05 pm on October 29, and the website is now fully operational,” the region said.
Meanwhile, the City of Oshawa told Durham Post that: “This technical issue was directly related to the Microsoft Azure cloud service outage that affected multiple services and vendors.”
Durham Police said the outage was widespread across North America (see below).
