Controversial Pickering councillor Lisa Robinson yesterday announced she has been selected to run as the People’s Party of Canada (PPC) candidate for the newly created Pickering–Brooklin federal riding.
Durham Post had asked Councillor Robinson as early as June last year if she was applying to run as a CPC (Conservative Party of Canada) candidate for the federal seat, following the inaugural Pickering–Brooklin Conservative EDA meeting at the end of May last year.
The event was attended by several individuals seeking nomination from the CPC for the Pickering–Brooklin seat. In late March 2024, the federal riding of Pickering–Uxbridge was changed to Pickering–Brooklin.
Robinson is not amused by the CPC decision and has voiced her opinion in her usual way on social media.
“Take a moment to hear what’s really been happening. The Conservative Party handpicked their candidate ‘a fake conservative’ and cancelled the nomination vote. The people never got to choose — and that’s not democracy. I’m the only true conservative in this race — and the only one that’s been fighting for the people!”
In her candidacy announcement, Robinson did not mention the PPC. “It’s official — I’m a candidate for the Pickering–Brooklin riding here in Durham.”
Robinson has picked up a reputation after being at loggerheads for a long time with the Pickering mayor, city council, and staff, trading charges and counter-charges.
“I stand before this flag (My Pride Flag) not just as a city councillor, but as a protector, a patriot, of the values it’s meant to represent – truth, freedom, and the unwavering right of every Canadian to speak, question, and fight for what is just. I don’t bow to corruption. I don’t fear intimidation. I fight for Canada, and I won’t back down!! God Bless Canada,” she said in her candidacy post on social media.
