Courtice fire forces Highway 401 closure in both directions

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday reported a fire at a building on Courtice Court, which forced the closure of Highway 401 nearby.

“Hwy 401 in the area of Courtice Road is closed [in] both directions due to a fire in the area. Please avoid the area,” said a DRPS tweet.

Crews are at the scene. Please avoid the area of Baseline Road between Courtice Road and McKnight Road. Update to follow, said another tweet.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), which looks after highways also reported the closure.

“Road closure: #Hwy401 #Oshawa: the highway is closed in both directions between Courtice Road and #Hwy 418 due to a structure fire. #OPP on scene,” said a tweet from OPP GTA Traffic.

Meanwhile, DRPS Central West Division reported a road closure on Lake Ridge Road South between Dundas Street West and Churchill Avenue (just north of Highway 401) to north and southbound traffic.

It was closed for an accident related investigation.

Both roads were reopened later.
