Man in trauma centre after Whitby head-on crash

A 24-year old Whitby male was seriously injured Sunday after being involved in a head-on motor vehicle collision on Lakeridge Road near Dundas Street in the Town of Whitby.

On July 17 at about 5:10 am, officers from Central West Division responded to a serious collision involving two vehicles on Lakeridge Road south of Dundas Street West in the Town of Whitby. Two vehicles were reportedly involved in a head-on collision.

It was reported that a black 2007 Honda Civic was northbound on Lakeridge Road approaching Dundas Street West when it crossed over the centre line and entered into the southbound lane. The Honda continued northbound where it collided head-on with a southbound white 2021 Jeep Cherokee, said a police statement.

The male driver of the Honda Civic was treated by Whitby Fire and Durham EMS. He sustained extensive injuries and was rushed to a Toronto based trauma centre as his condition worsened. He is currently in serious condition.

The driver of the involved Jeep Cherokee, a 32-year old Whitby male, was not injured and was released from the scene.

Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The area of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected. The area was also canvassed for video evidence.
