Covid Update: Daily cases creep back up past 100

Durham Health yesterday posted 104 new Covid-19 cases for May 19, taking the region’s tally to 23,740 since the count began on February 29, 2020.

One new death each was reported in Ajax and Oshawa. Durham’s overall death toll now stands at 357, with 218 of them occurring in LTCs.

Recoveries stand at 22,407. There are 976 active covid cases. Fifty-seven cases are hospitalized with 18 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 919 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of covid cases so far in Ajax.

There were:

  • 8 cases in Pickering
  • 27 in Ajax
  • 19 in Whitby
  • 24 in Oshawa
  • 23 in Clarington
  • 2 in Uxbridge
  • none in Scugog
  • none in Brock

Covid Deaths: 357

Of the 113 reported deaths in Pickering, 87 were in LTC
Of the 62 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Of the 57 reported deaths in Whitby, 30 in LTC
Of the 59 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTC
22 deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTC]
25 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTC
17 deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
2 deaths have been reported in Brock
