Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has charged a 23-year-old male from Ajax with impaired operation following a collision in Pickering early Tuesday morning.
On January 21 at about 1:30 am, officers from West Division responded to a collision at Church Street North and Kingston Road West. A red Hyundai was traveling south when it ran a red light at the intersection and collided with a black Toyota.
Upon arrival, officers found the Hyundai on its side. A female passenger was extricated from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Toyota also sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene, police said.
Police determined that the driver of the Hyundai showed signs of alcohol impairment and took him into custody. Subsequent blood alcohol tests revealed results of 220 mg and 210 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood, well over the legal limit of 80 mg per 100 mL
The driver, a 23-year-old male from Ajax, has been charged with impaired operation.
