A male and female from Pickering are facing charges after allegedly filing a false stolen vehicle report and defrauding an insurance company.
On Tuesday, August 20, members of DRPS West Division responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the area of Fairport Road and Strouds Lane. According to police, a male and female reported that their vehicle had been stolen after being parked overnight in the male’s driveway. The female later received compensation from her insurance company when the vehicle could not be found.
Following an investigation, police determined that the vehicle had been deemed inoperable and taken to a dealership by the female in early August. The dealership made several attempts to have the vehicle removed, but it was never retrieved. In November, the vehicle was towed from the dealership property.
On January 17, the male and female surrendered themselves to a DRPS Division where they were taken into custody without incident.
A 69-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man, both from Pickering, were charged and released on an undertaking. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Det. Brown of Project Attire at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 7827.
