Pickleball has become increasingly popular across Ontario, attracting players of all age groups. However, North Oshawa currently lacks sufficient outdoor courts. In particular, the residential areas surrounding the Costco location in North Oshawa do not have any nearby dedicated pickleball facilities, requiring residents to travel to other parts of the city,
The resident continued stating that outdoor pickleball is a seasonal activity due to weather conditions. It’s actively played for approximately 4 to 5 months each year. During this period, there is strong demand for accessible outdoor courts, and the absence of facilities in North Oshawa significantly limits participation.
The resident stated that this creates inconvenience, especially for seniors, families, and individuals who rely on nearby recreational spaces.
After discussion, Oshawa Council carried the motion to investigate the possibility of adding more Pickleball Courts in North Oshawa due to growing interest.
Cricket Field
A motion to investigate a cricket field in North Oshawa was forwarded to the mayor’s 2026 budget.
However, that item was not included which led council to close that action.
As the interest in a new cricket field in North Oshawa is continuing to grow, council has carried a motion that city staff investigate opportunities for locations and any grant applications. Staff were also directed to meet with the facilitators of the new not-for-profit organization being incorporated.
