Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday reported that a cyclist was injured in a collision in the Town of Whitby.
The incident led to the closure of all but one eastbound lanes of Dundas Street East, police said. The road was later reopened.
“Hopkins Street is closed between Nichol Avenue and Dundas Street East. The eastbound lanes of Dundas Street East is down to one lane. One cyclist transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” said a DRPS alert.
Road Closure in Scugog
DRPS also reported a road closure in the Township of Scugog yesterday due to a crash.
Island Road between Fralicks Beach Road and Hood Drive in Scugog was closed for a collision investigation, the police said.
No further details were made available on either the Whitby or the Scugog collisions.
Final Farewell

DRPS said its members were honoured to stand beside the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), family and members of the community, to pay tribute to Sgt. Brandon Malcolm of the OPP, while his procession made its way to the City of Oshawa.
“His sacrifice will never be forgotten,” said the DRPS.
Thomas Carrique, OPP Commissioner, on Monday announced: “It is with profound sadness that I regretfully confirm that OPP Sergeant Brandon Malcolm was killed in the line of duty along Highway 401 in Cobourg this evening.
“We honour his service and bravery as we grieve this tremendous loss. We extend our deepest condolences and mourn alongside his loved ones and OPP colleagues across the province.”
