December starts with Durham’s 10th murder of 2024 – a matricide

Durham Police yesterday said a 64-year-old female, identified as Sheila Hercules, has died after being assaulted by her son.

On Sunday, December 1 at about  5:10 am, members from West Division responded to reports of a collision on Weyburn Square in Pickering. Officers arrived on the scene and located a 64-year-old woman suffering from life-threatening injuries.

She was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre where she has been pronounced deceased. Investigators determined that her injuries were caused by an assault, and not the collision. Her 25-year-old son was arrested at the scene and is now facing charges of murder, police said.

No further suspects are outstanding and there is no concern for public safety.

The suspects, age 25 of Pickering, has been charged with Second Degree Murder. His name is available at www.drps.ca.

Police said anyone with cell phone, dashcam, surveillance footage or information about this incident is asked to contact Det. Barrette of the Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520 x 5412.

Editor’s Note: Durham Post does not name or identify the accused as:
