Postal Strike: Reminder on fines for late municipal payments

As the end of the month approaches, the City of Oshawa yesterday remided residents that payments received late due to Canada Post workers’ strike, may attract penalties and interest.

A city statement pointed out that property owners enrolled in the city’s Pre-Authorized Tax Payment (PTP) plan should be aware that 2025 interim tax bills have been issued.

“The city reminds residents that they are still responsible for submitting time-sensitive payments and applications on time, even during the strike. Late payments may be subject to penalties or interest,” the city said.

‘The city encourages residents to contact Service Oshawa to confirm their January 2025 withdrawal amount for property taxes. Service Oshawa can be reached by calling 905-436-3311, emailing service@oshawa.ca or visiting City Hall (50 Centre Street South),” the city said.

Residents are encouraged to register for E-Billing to avoid potential delays in receiving future tax bills. E-Billing allows for secure electronic delivery of tax bills, it added.
