Do you wanna start-up? Durham has new angel investors

Billed as Ontario’s newest angel investors network, Angel Investors Durham (AID), held its first investor meeting on February 13 at Durham College Centre for Innovation and Research in Oshawa.

The institution was formed at the end of November 2023. It will hold an investor meeting on March 13 for registered attendees.

Durham Region’s new angel investor group, spearheaded by founding partners Kleurvision and Spark Centre, will seek investment opportunities in early-stage tech companies. AID members will also be expected to provide mentorship and access to risk-capital networks, in addition to financial support.

As a founding partner, Invest Clarington is working with AID to bring next-generation startups to Clarington—and grow its innovation economy with easy access to major markets, a growing highly-skilled workforce, and a friendly business environment, said a Clarington statement.

It pointed out that angel investing enables individuals to fund promising start-ups, encourage innovation, provide valuable coaching to entrepreneurs, spur job creation and benefit the community.

Other regional sponsors include Invest Durham, City of Oshawa and Durham College.
