Durham Region stated that it is working to expand its transit services to meet the needs of its growing population.
Durham Region Transit (DRT) is entering the final year of its Route Ahead Strategy and is introducing the Route Ahead 2030: Five-Year Service Strategy, which outlines plans for the transit network’s growth through 2030 and beyond.
According to DRT, as part of this strategy, the agency is developing Local Area Transit Plans for two key growth areas:
- Seaton in Pickering
- Brooklin and North Oshawa
These regions have been identified as key areas for development where transit services will need to be adapted to meet the demands of growth.
DRT is inviting the public to attend Public Information Centres (PICs) and Local Area Transit Plan sessions across the region. These events will provide opportunities for community members to give feedback, which DRT says will play an important role in shaping future transit services as part of the Route Ahead 2030 strategy.
