Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) is investigating the region’s first homicide of this year following the discovery of a man’s body in Pickering.
According to police, officers from West Division responded to a check on well-being call near Fairport Road and Third Concession Road on Wednesday, April 30. When they arrived at the scene, they found a deceased male inside a vehicle. The area was secured, and the Coroner’s Office was called in to assist.
Following a post-mortem examination, the death was determined to be a homicide.
The victim has been identified as 47-year-old Joshua Ibbitson of Markham.
Durham’s Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation and is appealing to the public for assistance. Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area between the evening of April 29 and the morning of April 30—or who may have seen anything suspicious—to contact police.
