Scugog earmarks 52 capital projects for this year

The Township of Scugog said 52 individual projects are scheduled for this year with an expected budget of $8.7 million, with 150 additional projects projected through 2029.

Scugog, the second-largest municipality by geographic area in Durham Region, maintains 413 centreline kilometres of local roads. Along with improvements to the local road network, several regional and provincial roads within Scugog’s boundaries are also undergoing upgrades.

The township said planned capital projects for 2025 include:

  1. Gravel resurfacing across 22.3 kilometres of township roads
  2. Surface treatment on 3.1 kilometres of Scugog Line 6 (from Marsh Hill Road to 0.5 km west of Highway 7/12)
  3. Surface treatment on 1.1 kilometres of Old Scugog Road (from 350 metres north of Byers Road to Shirley Road)
  4. Reconstruction of Union Avenue (from King Street to Josephine Street)
  5. Near-complete roof replacement at the storage building at 1647 Reach Street
  6. Design work for the rehabilitation of Old Simcoe Road (Queen Street to Reach Street)
  7. Ongoing design for Queen Street (Water Street to Simcoe Street) and Perry Street (Queen Street to Mary Street), expected to be completed in
  8. New sidewalk and top curb construction on Balsam Street, with top asphalt scheduled for 2026
  9. Removal and replacement of a box culvert on Scugog Line 4 with a modular steel bridge
  10. Replacement of Edgerton Bridge, with environmental assessment and design underway (construction expected in 2026)
  11. Replacement of the Scugog Community Recreation Centre parking lot (design and tender in 2025, construction in 2026)
  12. Opening of a new washroom facility at Palmer Park in May 2025, followed by a splash pad opening in June 2025
  13. Playground replacement at View Lake Park
  14. Building condition assessments for the Municipal Offices, the George Currey Grain Elevator/Old Mill (circa 1874), and the Marina Café

Pedestrian safety remains a focus, with $100,000 allocated for sidewalk repairs and replacements across the township.
