A fugitive wanted by Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has been arrested in the southern American state of Georgia.
The Roswell Police Department (RPD) has arrested the male, a retired NFL player, who is also wanted by DRPS for failing to comply with his release order.
In August of 2023, the fugitive was arrested for over $100,000 in check fraud by DRPS. In April of 2024, he was granted bail and placed on GPS monitoring, which he removed before fleeing back to the United States.. Name and further details available here.
He has since breached conditions of his release order and an arrest warrant has been issued. The DRPS is working with the Roswell Police Department to ensure he is held responsible for all charges, said a DRPS statement.
Preyed on Women
On Wednesday, the Roswell Police Department arrested the fugitive on 18 charges related to an extensive financial fraud scheme.
RPD began its investigation in July, after a victim reported being financially exploited by the suspect.
Investigators learned that he had been targeting multiple women through online dating platforms. Once he had established a relationship with them, he would tell the victims a fictitious story about his financial troubles and ask them for money, promising to repay them from his NFL annuity.
He used the women’s funds to support his lavish lifestyle, including financing Airbnb’s, travel, and gift cards, RPD said.
It said detectives have identified three victims so far in Wisconsin, North Carolina, and New York, with a combined financial loss of approximately $300,000. Additional victims throughout the United States are suspected.
Any More Victims?
On the morning of Wednesday, August 27, RPD detectives served search and arrest warrants at a home associated with the suspect in Roswell. He was arrested without incident and charged with multiple counts of deposit account fraud, identity fraud, financial transaction card fraud, theft by taking, and criminal attempt to commit theft.
RPD said this remains an active investigation. Anyone who believes they have been a victim or has additional information relevant to this case is asked to contact Detective Fields at nfields@roswellgov.com.
