Durham offers covid self-isolation centre

Durham Region is reminding individuals who cannot safely isolate at home, that the Self-isolation Centre is an available resource for those who either need to be tested for Covid-19, are awaiting Covid-19 test results, or have confirmed positive for Covid-19.

This resource is for individuals who live with others and need to self-isolate elsewhere to avoid spreading the virus within their own household, said a statement.

The Self-isolation Centre is located downtown Oshawa and includes meals, Wi-Fi, security, and referrals to health and social services.

Persons may be eligible for the Self-isolation Centre if they meet all of the following criteria:

  • A resident of Durham Region;
  • Awaiting Covid-19 test results, waiting to be tested, or have confirmed positive and have no alternative for self-isolation;
  • 16 years of age or older; or, if under the age of 16, are accompanied by an adult for the duration of their self-isolation;
  • Capable of completing activities of daily living with minimal support or supervision;
  • Consent to [up to] a 14-day admission to the Self-Isolation Centre.

Durham Region Health Department can provide eligible residents in the community information about the Self-isolation Centre and can refer them to the centre. Referrals will only be accepted from Durham Region Public Health.
