Durham Police stop stolen car, find loaded handgun

Durham Police officers arrested two occupants of a stolen vehicle after a traffic stop in Oshawa Tuesday night.

On April 12 at about 7:45 pm, members of Central East Division conducted a traffic stop of a stolen vehicle they observed in the area of Thickson Road and Taunton Road. Police safely stopped the vehicle at Conlin Road and Simcoe Street and arrested the driver and passenger and seized a loaded handgun, said a police statement.

A 27-year old from Mississauga and a 22-year old from Whitby, face a combined 16 firearms-related charges which include: Possess Prohibited/Restricted Firearm with Ammunition; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Car; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm and Careless Storage.

They were both held for bail hearings. Names available www.drps.ca.
