Durham Traffic: Wear a helmet when out on a bike

Speed is a constant with Traffic Services, but yesterday seemed to have a bit of a focus on bicyclists – especially those not wearing a helmet.

Bike Patrol Officers from Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) Central East Division were out in the Oshawa downtown area on what they described as a “beautiful day”.

Police hopes all cyclists wear a helmet for safety, but under the Highway Traffic Act, there is an exemption for those cyclists over the age of 18. However, e-cyclists do require a helmet regardless of age.

DRPS North Division Traffic too were conducting traffic enforcement along Goodwood Road in Uxbridge.

Please obey the speed limit and wear a proper helmet when riding a bicycle or power-assisted bicycles (see top image).

They, of course, also pulled up a car (below) for a traffic violation.

North Division Traffic also conducted radar monitoring on King Street at Mikelen Drive in Port Perry.

The found a driver doing 83 kmh (below). It is too fast in a 50 kmh zone. Please slow down and obey the speed limit, they said.
