Poetry has long been a medium for self-reflection, expression, and exploration, offering readers a chance to see the world through a different lens.
In his latest collection, The Costume Box, local author Peter Hynes continues this tradition, crafting verses that encourage contemplation and invite readers to think about things they might not ordinarily consider.
As a follow-up to his first collection, Under the Oak, The Costume Box presents a mix of introspective and observational poetry, touching on themes of identity, change, and the everyday moments that shape us. Hynes, who has been writing poetry since his teenage years, approaches his craft with curiosity and sincerity, always striving to refine his voice.
“I hope readers find something in these poems that resonates with them,” says Hynes. “Poetry has a way of uncovering thoughts and emotions we don’t always acknowledge, and if The Costume Box can spark even a moment of reflection, then I’ve done my job.”
Written from ‘somewhere in the darkest depths of Ontario’, The Costume Box is an invitation to pause, reflect, and appreciate the power of words.
