Durham Regional Police reported that eight impaired drivers were taken off the road over the Victoria Day long weekend as part of targeted enforcement efforts across the region.
According to police, members of DRPS conducted a ride initiative during Victoria Day. In just two hours, officers stopped nearly 400 vehicles, resulting in one arrest for impaired driving.
In addition to the RIDE program, frontline officers on general patrol arrested seven more impaired drivers throughout the weekend.
DRPS called the number of impaired drivers on the road “unacceptable” and urged the public to make responsible choices behind the wheel.
