Road closures to watch for as the long weekend wraps up

Motorists across Durham Region should prepare for several upcoming road closures and lane restrictions due to infrastructure and roadwork projects taking place in Pickering, Ajax, and Scugog.

Pickering: Temporary road closure on Old Brock Road

The City of Pickering has announced a temporary road closure on Old Brock Road, between Lane Street and Bundy Street, scheduled for Tuesday, May 20, from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. The closure is necessary for a cross-culvert pipe replacement.

Local traffic and emergency services will still have access to properties at 5128–5212 Old Brock Road via Bundy Street. Access to the area south of Lane Street will be available through Central Street via Uxbridge-Pickering Townline and Brock Road, the city said.

Ajax: Lane restrictions on Salem Road North

The Region of Durham has advised residents of lane restrictions on Salem Road North in Ajax from May 20 to July 15. The affected area includes the intersection of Blowers Crescent and Salem Road North, as well as 150 metres north and south of the intersection.

The project will involve extending an existing culvert and installing a centre median. The region has acknowledged that the work may cause disruptions and asks drivers to proceed with caution to ensure the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and work crews. The schedule may change depending on weather conditions.

Scugog: Lane restrictions on Shirley Road

Also in Durham, Shirley Road (Regional Road 19) in the Township of Scugog will undergo lane restrictions from May 24 to June 20, 2025, between Simcoe Street and 0.5 kilometres east of Graham Road.

According to the Region of Durham, the work involves road resurfacing, the addition of paved shoulders, and new pavement markings. As with other projects, timelines are subject to weather-related delays.
