Eight-tower project planned for Pickering

A virtual public meeting has been called by Pickering Council on a proposed eight-tower development on the southwest corner of Kingston Road and Whites Road.

The purpose of the official plan amendment is to increase the maximum permitted residential density from 140 units per net hectare to 500 units per net hectare, and increase the maximum permitted floorspace index from 2.5 to 5.0.

Director Industrial Holdings Limited (Sorbara Group) is proposing to amend the city’s official plan and rezone the subject lands to permit a phased mixed-use development, consisting of eight apartment towers with heights ranging from 18 to 42 storeys and 4 blocks of 4-storey stacked townhouses, said a city announcement.

The proposed redevelopment would introduce approximately 2,884 new residential units, approximately 2,232 square metres of commercial/retail space and 4,448 square metres of office space.

The plan also includes three private parks, a gateway plaza, and a network of private condominium roads with two accesses onto Kingston Road.

The public meeting will be held on Monday, November 2, 2020 at 7 pm.

  1. That area/intersection is a planning disaster already. Proposed project could only result in chaotic mayhem! Use the wide-open Seaton lands for this project. There is no transit, road support for the intended populous. Presently, Hwy2 – mess. 401 – mess. Whites – messy.

  2. That intersection is very busy right now, would not be able to navigate with all the people you want to populate that area with. There’s also the newer row houses on whites west side, plus. Ew tower going up on east side of whites. Too dense

  3. Good. intensification should be around the Kingston road corridor and in the GO station area. Save our waterfront and farmlands.

  4. City of Pickering is broke and incompetent. High taxes and few services. Lots of debt. They just spent $165 million of the next 10 years of Casino revenue to redevelop the mall. Really, we want our new city facilities attached to a mall? You can’t make this stuff up. I am selling my house and moving. So long.

  5. WHY would Pickering Council not consider the traffic issue its already created for drivers? The question these days is………… Does one hit a bus or a biker when driving east on Kingston Rd. to south on Whites Rd.? The LAST thing we need is more traffic in that area! What’s wrong with the scrub land on Whites north of Finch?

  6. The intersection of Kingston Rd. and Whites Rd is already one of the busiest and dangerous in the city. I can’t imagine adding another 2300 cars into the area. Stop the madness!

  7. This proposal is a planning disaster at one of the busiest intersections in Pickering. I am totally against it due to the density.
