FireWolves bringing National Lacrosse League action to Oshawa

The National Lacrosse League’s FireWolves will be relocating to Oshawa this fall, with the team set to play at the Tribute Communities Centre beginning in November.

The franchise, previously based in Albany, New York, will now call Oshawa and Durham Region home, bringing professional lacrosse to what organizers describe as one of Canada’s most passionate sports markets.

“It’s an honour to welcome the FireWolves organization, National Lacrosse League, players, and fans to the Tribute Communities Centre,” said Andrew Nash, General Manager for Oak View Group. “Their arrival marks a new chapter for professional sports in our city and reflects our commitment to creating unforgettable experiences for the community.”

The FireWolves will join the Ontario Hockey League’s Oshawa Generals as tenants of the downtown arena, which has been a major sports and entertainment hub since opening in 2006.

The announcement comes alongside the City of Oshawa’s commitment to invest $50 million in upgrades to the Tribute Communities Centre as part of a 30-year partnership with the Generals and Oak View Group. Planned improvements include a main entrance expansion, updated concessions, new interior renovations, and seating for at least 7,000 fans. The Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame will also be relocated to a prominent space in front of the venue.

“We are excited to welcome the FireWolves and the National Lacrosse League to the great City of Oshawa and to the Tribute Communities Centre,” said Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter. “With $50 million in upgrades underway, the venue is being modernized to deliver an exceptional fan experience and world-class amenities for athletes. We look forward to cheering on the FireWolves and can’t wait to welcome players and fans to experience all that our community has to offer.”

Since opening, the Tribute Communities Centre has hosted more than seven million fans for concerts, sporting events, and international competitions. The arrival of the FireWolves adds to its growing reputation as a destination for top-level sports and live entertainment.
