Four girls and a male teen carjackers flee in stolen vehicle

Durham Police yesterday said one male youth and four female youth are in custody after attempting to steal a vehicle and fleeing from police in another stolen vehicle.

On Sunday, November 26 at about 2:05 am, member of Central West Division responded to a stolen vehicle in progress call in the area of Louise Crescent and Souter Drive in Whitby.

The suspects were unable to steal the vehicle and fled prior to police arrival. As police were canvassing the area, a suspicious vehicle was observed driving away. A check of the vehicle’s licence plate confirmed it had been stolen, said a police statement.

It said a traffic stop was initiated but the vehicle failed to stop and fled the area. With the assistance of Air1, the stolen vehicle was tracked to the area of Sherwood Drive in Ajax, where it was abandoned and all occupants fled on foot. Police found and arrested the five occupants in various locations a short distance away from the abandoned vehicle.

One 16-year-old female and three 17-year old females from Whitby are charged and a 17-year-old male from Ajax is also charged. All were released on an undertaking.

Anyone with new information about this incident is asked to contact Cst. Sharma of Central West Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2259.
