Durham Region is bringing back Curbside Giveaway Day, offering residents a chance to declutter and share unwanted items.
The event, organized in partnership with local area municipalities, will take place on Saturday, June 14, from 7 am to 7 pm. Residents across Durham are encouraged to participate by placing gently used items at the curb clearly marked as “Free.”
Curbside Giveaway Day is designed to promote reuse and reduce waste by giving items a second life instead of sending them to landfill. At the end of the day, participants are reminded to bring any unclaimed items back inside or consider donating them to a local charity or thrift shop.
How to Participate:
- Clearly label all giveaway items with a “Free” sign.
- Place acceptable items at the curb by 7 am on June 14.
- Remove any uncollected items by 7 pm
Unclaimed items left at the curb after the event may be subject to local by-law enforcement.
Safety and Courtesy Guidelines:
- Do not leave items that are unsafe, such as car seats or cribs.
- Follow all traffic rules and do not block roads, sidewalks, or driveways.
- Avoid trespassing or parking illegally while browsing.
- Clean and disinfect all items before giving them away. Fabric items should be washed in advance, and any clothing acquired should be laundered as well.
Curbside Giveaway Day offers a fun way for the community to reduce waste, help the environment, and share with neighbours. More information, including a list of acceptable items, is available at durham.ca/CurbsideGiveaway.
