The City of Oshawa is offering free parking at all metered on-street locations in downtown Oshawa during the holiday season.

Additionally, there is free parking in four downtown municipal parking lots over the holidays:

  2. Lot 18 (on William Street at Carriage Works)
  3. Lot 50 (west side of the Oshawa Public Libraries’ McLaughlin branch) and
  4. Lot 52 (west side of City Hall)

The free holiday parking is in effect up to and including Sunday, January 3, 2021.

Reminders:

  • Posted time limits for parking still apply.
  • Monthly parking rates still apply for monthly permits and short-term parking rates still apply at parking lot 16 and parkades 1 and 3. Learn more about the locations on the downtown parking webpage.
  • On-street parking is not permitted on Oshawa streets between the hours of 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., from December 1 to April 1.
  • In addition to the 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. winter seasonal parking regulations, vehicles parked on Oshawa streets at any time while salting/snow clearing is underway may be ticketed and/or towed.

Visit www.oshawa.ca/parking for more information. Additionally, community members can report parking issues and service requests 24/7 from their computers or mobile devices using Service Oshawa Online, said a city statement.

The move is to support local business by providing easy and free access by buyers and service users.

The city said community members are encouraged to support local and buy local whenever you can. Here are some ways you can make a difference:

  • Order from local businesses online: Many small businesses have adapted their operations during Covid-19 to offer online ordering with curbside pickup or home delivery.
  • Purchase gift certificates now to use later: Consider purchasing gift certificates to give as holiday gifts or to use later. In addition, the Downtown Oshawa BIA has a gift certificate program.
  • Dine-out at home: Enjoy local cuisine by ordering takeout from your local restaurant.
  • Show support on social media: Let our local businesses know you care by liking and sharing their messages on social media. Use the hashtag #OshawaLovesLocal and tag the local business in your posts.
