Here’s your chance to become a member of the public art jury

Pickering is urging residents and arts enthusiasts to make a meaningful impact on the city’s cultural and artistic future by serving on the 2025 Public Art Jury.

This initiative seeks to engage individuals passionate about creativity and community building to help shape Pickering’s public art projects.

As a Public Art Jury member, participants will evaluate and recommend artist proposals for up to six public art projects over a one-year term. These projects will bring new and inspiring artistic works to Pickering’s public spaces, contributing to the city’s ongoing efforts to enhance its cultural landscape and foster a vibrant, inclusive community, the city said.

It said the jury is open to a diverse group of individuals, including artists, curators, architects, community organizers, and cultural advocates. Members will provide valuable insight and expertise to ensure that public art in Pickering reflects the city’s commitment to creativity, innovation, and inclusivity. In recognition of their contributions, jury members will receive compensation per project review, subject to the approval of the 2025 budget.

Meetings and evaluations may take place in person, with virtual accommodations available to ensure accessibility and convenience for all participants.

Interested applicants are encouraged to apply by submitting a letter of interest and a professional CV to sbarakov@pickering.ca by January 9, at 4 pm EDT.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone who is passionate about the arts and wants to have a direct hand in shaping the creative vision of Pickering,” said Stoyan Barakov, Curator of Public Art for the City of Pickering. “Public art plays a crucial role in creating spaces that inspire and connect our community, and we’re looking forward to welcoming individuals who share our vision for a more vibrant and artistic city.”
