Durham Health yesterday reported a record 165 new covid cases for December 5.
It also updated the number of Covid-19 deaths to 12 in the past eight days. Two new deaths were reported each for Whitby and Oshawa – both in long term care homes.
The previous record was of 127 new cases on November 28. The new high brings the region’s total to 5,035 cases since the count began on February 29.
Recoveries stand at 4,096, up by 29. There were 743 active covid cases in Durham.
According to Durham Health, there were:
- Fifty-five new cases each in Oshawa
- Forty-seven in Whitby
- Forty-two in Ajax
- Twenty-five in Pickering
- Eight in Clarington, and
- One in Brock
- Seventy-three cases are under investigation
Twenty-two cases are hospitalized with four in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 721 people in home isolation.
Deaths so far total 196, of which 166 were in long term care homes (LTCH).
Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 1,500 in Ajax, followed by 1,178 in Pickering.
Death Toll: Two new deaths each in Whitby and Oshawa
Of the 89 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 39 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirteen deaths were reported in Whitby, nine in LTCH
Of the 26 reported deaths in Oshawa, 18 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
