Two new bring covid toll to 8 in a week

Durham Health yesterday updated the number of Covid-19 deaths to eight in the past one week.

It also reported 42 new covid cases for December 4, bringing the region’s total to 4,871 cases since the count began on February 29.

Recoveries stand at 4,067, up by 22. There were 612 active covid cases in Durham.

According to Durham Health, there were:

  • Thirteen new cases each in Pickering and Whitby
  • Nine in Ajax
  • Five in Clarington
  • Three in Oshawa, and
  • One each in Uxbridge and Brock
  • Thirty-seven cases are under investigation

Twenty-seven cases are hospitalized with five in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 585 people in home isolation.

Deaths so far total 192, of which 162 were in long term care homes (LTCH).

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 1,468 in Ajax, followed by 1,163 in Pickering.

Death Toll: Two new deaths in Whitby

Of the 89 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 39 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Eleven deaths were reported in Whitby, seven in LTCH
Of the 24 reported deaths in Oshawa, 16 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
