Hit 51-year old male pedestrian found dead in a ditch

Durham Police are seeking dashcam footage and witnesses following a fatal collision in Clarington.

On Sunday, December 8, at about 8:25 am, members from East Division were called to Regional Highway 2 east of Stapleton Road for a deceased male located in the ditch.

Officers arrived on scene between Newcastle and Newtonville, and located the male in the south ditch. Based on the injuries, investigators were able to determine that the deceased male had been struck at some point by an eastbound motor vehicle.

Officers have determined that the male was walking on the side of the roadway during the snow event that occurred after 6 pm on Saturday, December 7.

Police are asking any witnesses or anyone with video footage, including dashcam, along Highway 2 between Morgans Road and Reids Road between December 7 and December 8, is asked to contact investigators.

The deceased is a 51-year-old male and police are actively trying to locate a next of kin.

Members of the DRPS – Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene and investigated the circumstances of the incident. The area of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected. This collision is still under investigation.
