Hit-and-run drives flees only to crash into snow plow

A male driver sustained serious injuries after his vehicle was involved in a collision with a snowplow in Oshawa, according to Durham Police.

On Thursday, January 27, at about 8:45 pm, members from East Division responded to the intersection of Columbus Road and Townline Road for reports of a motor vehicle collision involving an orange Dodge Ram and a Region of Durham snowplow.

The 51-year-old male driver was operating his Dodge Ram eastbound on Columbus Road when he failed to stop at the four-way stop at Grandview Road North. The pick-up truck struck a northbound Chevrolet Spark in the intersection. The driver of the pick-up fled the scene continuing eastbound on Columbus Road, said a police statement.

At Townline Road, the pick-up struck an eastbound Region of Durham snow plow. The driver of the pickup sustained serious injuries and was transported to a Toronto-area trauma center. The other involved drivers were uninjured and remained on scene where they co-operated with police.

Alcohol is a factor in this collision.

Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roads in the area were closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
