Residents can get funding for election candidate events

Ajax is launching Ajax Candidate Events, a funding program empowering the community to host special candidate events and forums to get to know who’s running in the 2022 municipal election.

The election will take place from October 17–24, this year.

Ajax Candidate Events is a community-based engagement program that provides individuals and groups with tools and funding to host candidate events in advance of the 2022 municipal election.

Durham Region residents, neighbourhood groups, community organizations, faith-based institutions, incorporated not-for-profits serving Ajax residents, local media outlets and post-secondary institutions, can apply.

Ajax is offering up to $1,000 to host a candidate event (see categories below). Events could include meet and greets, debates, and/or community forums. The town welcomes unique and creative ideas.

Event Categories

  • Ward 1 – Local and Regional Councillors
  • Ward 2 – Local and Regional Councillors
  • Ward 3 – Local and Regional Councillors
  • Mayor
  • Regional Chair

Individuals and groups can apply to host up to five events (one for each category).

Quick Facts

  • The 2022 Municipal Election will take place from October 17 – 24.
  • All applications will be reviewed by an internal team and successful applicants will be contacted in March 2022. Town of Ajax election officials are not part of the review panel.
  • The Ajax Candidate Events program is designed to support the Town of Ajax Strategic Plan objective for the Town to continue to be a trailblazer in the delivery of municipal elections, ensuring that the voting experience is modern, convenient and accessible for all.
