How much is the biggest-ever Canadian casino win?

Estimates show that there are almost 20 million active gamblers in Canada. Considering the country only has 38.25 million people, it’s fair to say it’s right up there with skiing and 4x4ing as one of Canadians’ most popular pastimes.

The straightforward reason for this is that it not only provides entertainment but also the chance to win excellent cash prizes. Who wouldn’t like that?

Some Canadians, however, have plenty more luck than others. They have experienced those highly coveted life-changing moments that gambling can offer and entered a world of financial freedom.

Below, we’ll look at the biggest Canadian casino winners. Their stories show that sometimes perseverance pays out in a big way.

$20.06 million

The most significant casino win to date occurred on January 30, 2019. The lucky player, known only as E.O., was playing at the popular online Zodiac casino when they hit it big on Mega Moolah and took home a jackpot worth $20,059,287.27.

This game, famed for its large progressive jackpots, has been responsible for most of the biggest slot wins worldwide.

Unfortunately, there is no other information on the winner or what they planned to do with the money. However, we are pretty sure they are still enjoying their massive windfall.

$16.50 million

Another major Canadian win attributed to the Mega Moolah slot game was awarded to Eric B on April 5, 2020. Eric scooped the staggering $16,496,347.95 jackpot while playing at Jackpot City—one of the region’s biggest and most popular online casinos.

Like the other big winners, Eric didn’t release any additional personal information about himself and has stayed out of the spotlight since his win. Although, with such a massive prize, he probably still enjoys gambling from time to time.

$11.63 million

Continuing the trend of large Mega Moolah winners, Marcus Goodwin is the holder of the tenth-largest jackpot in the game’s history. At the time, however, Marcus held the title of the second-largest Mega Moolah win since the game’s release in 2006.

Marcus, who had just joined Yako Casino shortly before, said he only played the popular slot every once in a while. However, on November 5, 2016, he was playing on his mobile phone when he struck gold.

After receiving a call from Yako Casino management to congratulate him on his win, Marcus made a YouTube video talking about his success. While the video has since been removed, in it he spoke about using his windfall to purchase a large home and take his family on a luxurious vacation to Africa.

$11.61 million

It might seem impossible (or at least highly improbable) that the next win on our list would also come from the same game as those listed above. Yet, once again, Mega Moolah was the source of the jackpot won on August 28, 2016—just a few months before Marcus’s big win above.

The winner, identified only as D.P., was also playing at Zodiac Casino when he won the $11,610,536.59 jackpot. As he chose to remain anonymous, there is not much information on what this lucky winner planned to do with his winnings.

Other Notable Mega Moolah Wins

As you can see, most of the biggest wins come from the Mega Moolah slot game. These wins have occurred on some of the best online casinos in Canada, like those found on slotsource.ca. A few other notable wins from this game are listed below:

  • $9,959,553.83 on May 24, 2020, at Jackpot City
  • $9,572,948.34 on March 14, 2017, at Zodiac Casino
  • $8,453,754.28 on January 16, 2017, at Captain Cooks
  • $8,162,217.05 on May 3, 2019, at Jackpot City
  • $7,562,019.94 on April 9, 2015, at Royal Vegas
  • $7,453.168.03 on February 27, 2018, at Royal Vegas

$5.8 million

One spectacular win that didn’t occur on Mega Moolah was Nick Hulst’s. His win, which happened in 2004, broke the record for the highest slot jackpot win at the time. He achieved his life-changing victory playing the aptly named Megabucks slot.

Working as a tax accountant in Toronto, he played the popular game at a casino in Niagara Falls when lady luck smiled down on him. When asked how he would celebrate his big win, he responded the way a true gambler would—by stating he would visit Las Vegas to try his luck there next.

$4.7 million

The next big win occurred in October 2008 at the Woodbine Racetrack Casino in Ontario. The winner, who decided to remain anonymous, was also playing IGT’s (International Gaming Technology) Megabucks slot.

After playing on just a $1 bet, the man won a staggering $4,755,436.56. While the casino and those around him celebrated his big win as soon as it happened, the fortunate winner hid his identity and left immediately after receiving his winnings.

As such, there is no word on what this gambler planned on doing with his surprising win, but hopefully he’s still enjoying it and will continue doing so for a long time.

$1.8 million

Unless you’ve lived in a cave for the past 40 years, you’ll undoubtedly know who Michael Jackson is. This celeb is also the inspiration for the Michael Jackson King of Pop slot machine, which happens to be what Kathryn Stokes was playing when Lady Luck stepped into her life.

After putting just $60 into the machine on September 17, 2013, Kathryn played for approximately an hour before her machine went crazy. That’s because she hit the $1,862,447.25 jackpot!

She was playing at the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, and it was only her second time visiting the casino. While she said she wasn’t sure what she was going to do with the money, the one thing she did want was a new car.

Note: All prize amounts are listed in Canadian dollars.
