How to join community clean-up campaigns in Durham

Durham municipalities have – and are – embarking on communiity clean-up campaigns, and are asking residents to help out.

Town of Ajax yesterday announced that the Spring Clean-Up is underway, and everyone has already made great progress (see top image).

It urged residents to participate in its Spring Clean-up challenge and check out http://ajax.ca/GLD for details.

Meanwhile, the City of Oshawa also urged residents to celebrate spring’s arrival by participating in Community Clean-up Week, April 23 to 29.

“The City of Oshawa encourages groups of all sizes to volunteer their time to help clean up our parks, green spaces, trails and schoolyards. Registered participants will receive free garbage bags and gloves (while supplies last) and a certificate of appreciation for their contribution to the community. To register or learn more, including choosing a community clean-up area or finding a group, visit Oshawa.ca/cleanupweek or call 905-438-3146.

Brooms will return for a downtown spring cleaning on Thursday, April 27, beginning at 11:30 am. To register, email brooms@jhsd.ca.

“As your mayor, I look forward to joining community members, local organizations and businesses of our great city for these upcoming clean-up events. Together, we can all contribute to making our green spaces, parks, neighbourhoods and downtown inviting spaces for everyone to enjoy,” said Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter.

Help keep Clarington litter-free

Clarington also asked residents to get involved and join your neighbours and friends from April 17 to 23 to help keep Clarington litter-free.

“Let’s work together to clear garbage and recycling that’s accumulated over the winter and ensure our neighbourhoods, local parks, green spaces, and trails are beautiful and safe for everyone to enjoy,” said a statement.
