Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) is on a campaign against distracted driving, and its Road Safety unit charged several drivers with Drive-Handheld Communications Device on Monday.
But the driver who took the dubious top spot was the one caught with a coffee in the right hand and a cellphone in the left.
Driver (top image and below) charged in Town of Ajax with handheld device and careless driving for driving along a busy road with no hands available to safely operate the vehicle, said the police.
“Please keep your eyes on the road!” it added.
Didn’t see the speed limit
DRPS reports that one of the most common excuses offered by drivers for speeding is that they did not see the speed limit sign.
“I am not familiar with the area and didn’t see that the speed limit changed,” DRPS North Division officers quoted a driver.
This is a common response drivers caught speeding give to police, they explained.
“Please pay attention to the speed limit signs, you passed three of them,” the officer told the driver (image below).
Heavy tinting
DRPS North Division also reported a car with over-the-limit tinting in Goodwood, Uxbridge.
“Can you see inside this vehicle? Neither can we,” they said of the car below.
“Tinted windows limit an officer’s ability to perform their duties,” they explained.
