Impaired car-in-ditch driver claimed he was passenger

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) said they found a car driven into a ditch between north Oshawa and Whitby.

The scene of the single car collision in the area of Winchester Road was closed between Thornton Road and Garrard Road for the investigation.

Police, in an earlier tweet on Friday, said the “passenger” was hurt but with non-life threatening injuries. The “passenger” had allegedly claimed that the driver of the vehicle had fled on foot. Police spent some time searching the area for him.

In a later tweet, the DRPS said: “Roads have re-opened, turns out the passenger was the driver and lied to responding officers. Search discontinued. Roadways have re-opened.”

On top of it all, it turns out that the driver was also suspected to be impaired.
