It took six years years but law caught up with sexual predator

A 32-year-old male has been charged with sexual assault following an investigation that began in 2018.

On Thursday, November 14, members of the Special Victims Unit concluded a sexual assault investigation that began almost six years ago. In 2018, members of Central East Division responded to a sexual assault call. The female victim was leaving a bar in downtown Whitby in the early morning hours.

The victim was looking for a hire-for-service ride to go home when the suspect approached her in his vehicle, offering a ride. The suspect drove the victim to an empty parking lot where he sexually assaulted her. The suspect then dropped her off near a convenience store in the Courtice area.

In 2024, investigators received new evidence that led them to investigate a male living in Oshawa. Members of the Offender Management Unit arrested the male on November 14.

A 32-year-old man, of Oshawa, was charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca, where a photo of the suspect can be viewed as police believe there may be more victims.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Jiggins of the Special Victims Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5312.
