City of Pickering yesterday advised area residents that there is no cause of concern if more steam than usual is seen coming from the nuclear power station.
It said Ontario Power Generation (OPG), operator of the power plant, has been carrying out maintenance.
“OPG has advised that Pickering Unit 5 will be brought back online following a maintenance outage,” said a city advisory.
“Some may witness greater amounts of steam over the next few days. This is normal and does not pose a risk to public safety or have any environmental impacts,” it added.
